The Harlem Shake is an internet video sensation that went viral in February 2013 where one person (often helmeted or masked) dances to an excerpt from the song “Harlem Shake” alone for 15 seconds, surrounded by other people unaware of the dancing individual. When the bass drops, the video cuts to the entire crowd (usually wearing a variety of costumes) doing an improvised convulsive dance for the next 15 seconds.
