Bystanders look on as Midland emergency personnel work the scene of an armed standoff that resulted in an apparent murder-suicide outside a residence in the 2200 block of South Baird Street in Midland, April 25. Police and Fire Department members responded to a shots fired call at approximately 2:33 p.m. and found Henry “Trey” Rodriquez III, age 35, outside of the residence with life-threatening gunshot wounds. A female was present at the time of the shooting but did not suffer any injuries. Rodriguez was later pronounced deceased at Midland Memorial Hospital. Armed suspect Nestor Castro Jr., age 35, proceeded to barricade himself inside the residence. Police tactical units utilized non-lethal tactics to attempt to apprehend Castro before entering the residence. Castro was found deceased with self-inflicted gunshot wounds before 8 p.m. Rodriguez, the apparent victim of the murder-suicide, was a member of the Midland Fire Department but was not on duty at the time.
